PublishedNew England Home
Stern McCafferty designed this new home for a rural site west of Boston. Carefully planned to meet the needs of a young family, the home is modern in character, with high ceilings, broad expanses of glass and simple, refined detailing. The clean and modern lines of the interior belie an uncompromising focus on warmth and practicality.
The house was designed to integrate with the landscape. Terraces facing south and west extend from interior spaces and create a dramatic sense of connection to the gardens from the private areas of the house. Stepping down to match the existing grades of the site, the building transforms in character from more formal and public facing the street, to less formal and private facing the terraces and gardens.
